3 Easy Living Room Tips
Friend: I’m popping round, will be there in 5 are you home?
You: Yehh … I’m home
Home: Errrm I’m a mess?
Friends and family LOVE to use the term ‘popping over or popping round’? Usually used when they’re not too far away and decided to come and quickly say hello - which also means no pre-warning and a home that isn’t visitor friendly.
It happens to the best of us but it isn’t something to worry about. There are plenty of ways that you can stay in control of your home with a time limit!
CLEAR
Clear all loose ends. For example dishes laying around, clothes, shoes, odd papers - anything that doesn’t need to be in your living room clear it away! Shoes by the front door, or in your bedroom - clothes in your room - odd papers in a neat pile in the kitchen - dishes in the dishwasher or quickly washed up. DONE.
ALIGN
Visually appeal to the eye. Items in your living room can really change the way the room looks. When you enter a room there are things that you will subconsciously notice. If these items are not tidy, the room will feel messy. For example cushions, ornaments, a rug or plants can all make a room feel tidy. Align the cushions and plump them up, position ornaments neatly on the shelf/side, make sure the rug is in-line with the room and align the plants to make sure they are centrally focused. DONE.
SCENT
Make the room smell nice. We have worked on the eye but we cant forget the nose! Psychology and scent is closely linked. A smell that pleases you will instantly make you feel comfortable and provoke the thought that the room is clean and tidy. Have you ever walked into a place, smelt it then thought umm this place smells clean? It shows the person has gone one step further in maintaining the room. Any fresh scent will work - burn a candle, spray air freshener or switch on the plug-in air freshener. DONE!
